Lyon “Fête des lumières”

December 7 – 8, 2012

One of my friends back from my UBC Engineering days happens to be living nearby in France!  Megan and her boyfriend, also named Paul, invited us to visit them in Lyon during the “Festival of Lights” – an annual event which boasts light spectacles throughout the city.  This uniquely Lyonnaise celebration is to honour Mary, Mother of Jesus, and the tradition was that every house would place candles along the outsides of all the windows to produce a spectacular effect throughout the streets.  Nowadays the effect is a little more technically advanced – including large-scale video projections onto iconic buildings.  Millions flock to the city to wander the streets, drink “Vin Chaud” and watch the amazing visual effects.  Here is a video we took of one of the most impressive displays, as well as some photos from our night there.
